‘Family Guy’ Movie Announcement Draws Worldwide Giggitys | NextMovie

Animation, comedian and all around cool dude Seth MacFarlane unexpectedly showed up at an mtvU event yesterday to announce a cool new contest for this year's Oscars — more on this later — but managed to completely upstage himself by also revealing that there is definitely going to be a "Family Guy" movie in the future.
"It's just a matter of when," MacFarlane said before tempering expectations slightly by adding, "It's hard to do that while you have the series going on at the same time; I think that's why it took 'The Simpsons' 20 seasons to figure out how to do it."
But despite that disclaimer, it looks as though the "Family Guy" film may be closer to reality than we all thought, as according to Entertainment Weekly, MacFarlane revealed that he and his "Family Guy" team have already worked out the details of exactly what the film will be about.
"We do know what the 'Family Guy' movie will be," he said. "'The Simpsons' movie, I thought, was hilarious, but the one criticism I would have is that it's a story they probably could've done on TV. There could've been an episode that had that plotline... That's the challenge with animation. You pretty much can do any story you want, so what is the reason for the movie? We finally hit on the answer to that question, and it will be something that would be impossible to do on TV."
Just what that answer is, of course, MacFarlane wouldn't say, in part because he's just too busy getting ready to host next year's Academy Awards to fully devote himself to a "Family Guy" movie. Speaking of which, this whole thing came about because MacFarlane was on hand at UCLA to announce a sweet new contest: Simply by filling out an application and submitting a short video through the Oscars' Facebook page, six lucky winners will win a trip to L.A. not just to watch the Oscars, but to actually participate as a presenter.
We're not sure which is cooler, the contest or the "Family Guy" news, but one thing is certain: MacFarlane is hitting on all cylinders these days. Can we get a giggity?
